In 2009 Fernbank Farm decided to invest in Black Truffle (Tuber melanosporum) production, an Orchard consisting of 500 specially inoculated oak trees was planted.<\/p>\n
It takes an average 5 years for the oak trees to begin producing truffles around the base\/root of the trees. Fernbank farm became famous in 2014 when Cameron Anderson (the then farm manager) found the first Black truffle to be grown on South African soil. Peak truffle production is reached in the tenth to twelfth year.<\/p>\n
Our orchard continues to produce Truffles and these are available to local restaurants and hotels throughout the country where this delicacy is served to discerning patrons .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
